While there is a great deal of large-scale wine production going on in on the Pelješac peninsula, there are also a number of small producers who are crafting excellent wines on their own terms. Vedran, the owner, doesn’t make his presence very well know, but then again, he probably figures that those who need to find him will find him, since he’s been making wines in his location for about the last 20 years and his family has been making wines from before he can even remember.
In his 300 year-old home, he produces small quantities of both Plavac and Dingač. These are actually made from the same grapes, but grown in very different regions of the peninsula and in Croatian terms, Dingač is name of the vineyard, sort of "grand cru". His Plavac has moderate alcohol and has a nice, rich nose that had mint, berry, and tobacco aromas. The body is very pleasing as well with a buttery finish that really reigns in the sharp, dry tones of clean afterteaste.
