Ph. D. of Juridical Sciences, Damir Klasiček, retired Dean of the Faculty of Law in Osijek and professor continues the tradition of viticulture and winemaking with his family after purchasing wineyards in 1976. from Stjepan Piller, who started back in 1910. by planting the first vineyards in the Danube, in the zone Erdut vineyards on famous and best positions of Busija, Lipovača and Kraljevo Brdo. The family bought first 56 hectares of the finest vineyards from Osijek industrialist of 19th century, Stjepan Piller, on recommendation of professor Vlado Kovač from the Faculty of Agronomy (and honorary member of the Bordeaux Wine Academy).
Realization of new plantings were 90% of black assortment, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and 10% of white assortment, Sauvignon Blanc. The Iuris Winery became recognized private producer of primary red grapes in the Danube region. Excitement comes from the fact that the winery still produces, besides Pinot Noir, mainly an assortment of wines from the Bordeaux red varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Pinot Noir grapes were planted in 2002., and currently represent nearly 25% of the area planted with the first harvest in 2007.
The style of produced wines remains traditional, wines that reflect elegance and complexity aging in barrels from the best Slavonian and French oak for several years. Using the best barrique for controlled vinification, long ripening and maturation, and long maturation in the bottle, Iuris provides top quality wines. Multiple award winning wines gained first recognitions and gold medals according to the highest criteria of the International Commission for the evaluation of wine (OIV) since the young enologist-winemaker, Damir Klasiček, son of a retired professor came back to Croatia in 2005. Domagoj had returned after several years of training and specialization done in Bordeaux and the United States, and took over running of all segments of the production.
In 1998., after reintegration of the Danube region and Croatian Serbian war 1991. -1995. Domagoj had returned from Study and practice done in renowned wineries Chateau Cheval, Chateau Margaux, Chateau dYquem, and a couple of years spent in Provence and Languedoc-Rousillon in the south of France mastering rose types of wines. When Kutjevački Podrumi Inc., one of the greatest Croatian wineries took over Slovenian Brič Winery, Domagoj became chief enologist for Brič Winery and achieved recognition for his contribution in raising the quality.
Today, experience and knowledge of traditional French winemaking has been implemented in the style and character of all Iuris wine. As such, the elegant yet modern style of wine achieve international "touch", and will continue to do it same way in future harvests.
Cabernet Sauvignon Saltwater is wine of ruby red, intense color. On the nose it is elegant, complex and intense wine, with highlighted floral, violet, red fruits, blackberries and redcurrants, with green pepper and mint. Wine is in perfect balance and shows finesse and class, solid and rounded tannins in its fruity – mineral structure, medium body with a long aftertaste.
